065: 3 Easy Valentines Traditions for the Whole Family (Encore!) // Sarah McKenna of Bombshell Bling

The first Valentines Day that my husband and I were dating, he showed up on my doorstep with flowers and a clue that started me on a scavenger hunt to romantic places all around our college town.

Seven years later, on our first Valentines Day as parents, he showed up on our doorstep with…a toilet plunger.  (You’ll have to listen to the episode to get the full story!)

Yes, becoming parents can definitely affect the romance of Valentines Day a bit–but there’s no reason why this “holiday of love” has to be limited to just you and your spouse.  February 14th can be a day to celebrate family love as well!

In this episode, my amazing sister Sarah McKenna, from the craft blog Bombshell Bling, shares three totally doable and super fun Valentines traditions for the entire family.

1) Secret Cupids: https://www.bombshellbling.com/secret-cupids-valentines-day-family-tradition/

2) Heart Attacks: https://www.bombshellbling.com/heart-attack/

3) Love Letters to your Kids: https://www.bombshellbling.com/mushy-love-letters-a-february-tradition/

I’d love to hear if you give one of these a try. Come say hi on my Instagram, 3in30podcast and let me know if you have other Valentines Traditions you do with your family!

How to Take Control of your Motherhood Story // Cate Johnson

How to Take Control of your Motherhood

“At any given point, you can say, ‘This is not how the story is going to end.'”

Cate Johnson was a mother of two young children with a big, beautiful home in the country.  From the outside, it looked like she was “living the dream,” but inside, she felt like she was drowning.

She craved peace and connection with her children–but instead she felt only chaos and overwhelm. She spent hours cleaning her big home while her kids watched television. She felt heartbroken that she was not the mother that she had always wanted to be.

After hitting a breaking point, she decided to take control of her motherhood story. She took a few drastic actions–such as deciding with her husband to sell their home in the country and move into a small apartment in the city–but most of her shifts were small. But they altered her motherhood story and the way she felt about motherhood.

Cate has a message of hope for all of us: We can live true to our values as mothers and take control of our motherhood stories.  Listen in to learn how!

039: Leaving a Legacy of Love for Our Children: A Musical Tribute to My Mama

A daughter's recollections of her mother's last few years of life, and the songs that brought them together

July 14th marked 15 years since my mother passed away from breast cancer.  I’ve been thinking about this milestone for months, and it occurred to me that I could use music to honor her.

Most people don’t know that I am a singer, and within this episode, you will hear me sing five different songs that remind me of my mother.  I will tell the story behind each song, and you will see how they all weave together to create a picture of the legacy that my mother left for me.

This episode is truly a piece of my heart.  My hope is that it will bring you hope and perspective in your own motherhood journey.

036: Momming Like a Boss: Using Corporate Leadership Strategies in Our Homes // Whitney Archibald of ‘How She Moms’

When Whitney Archibald started working as a magazine editor after college, she naturally excelled in this leadership role.  She effectively managed her team, created clear objectives for their work, and maintained focus and excellence in her responsibilities.

When she was pregnant with her third baby, she decided to start staying home full-time with her children–and one day she looked around her chaotic home and realized that she was not excelling in this “second career” in her life.  Determined to make a change, she started putting as much commitment into learning how to manage her home as she had put into learning how to manage her responsibilities at work.

She discovered that many of the same strategies that she had applied in her business life could be applied in this new phase of her life–and today on the podcast she is sharing those strategies with us!

Listen in to find out how you can take small but meaningful steps towards “Momming Like a Boss” and managing your home and family more effectively and with more confidence.
