When I hit publish on the first episode of 3 in 30 three years ago, I never, not in a million years, could have imagined where we would be today; or the lessons on meaningful motherhood that I’d learn along the way. I couldn’t have imagined the people I would meet through this podcast–both the guests I’ve interviewed and listeners I’ve interacted with–, the ways I would develop more emotional resilience as a result of doing this hard work and making mistakes and getting discouraged and continuing to press forward, or the JOY that would fill my life as I’ve been able to teach through this medium. 3 in 30 is about so much more than being a great mom…it’s about being a deeper, more whole, more developed human, and It has definitely done that for me.
In today’s episode, I am going to talk about three of the major threads that I have seen show up again and again through the 150 episodes I’ve recorded over the past three years…three themes that have emerged and become what I like to call “pillars” of meaningful motherhood.
THREE PILLARS OF MOTHERHOOD THAT HAVE EMERGED FROM 3 IN 30:
- Talk to your kids. Talk to them often and about everything.
- Everything gets easier with practice. Re-frame every experience within motherhood as an opportunity to practice
- Apologize to your kids.

Sponsors
- InfantSEE
I want to offer my deep gratitude for this month’s podcast sponsor, InfantSEE. I LOVE this non-profit program from Optometry Cares, the AOA Foundation.
Through the InfantSEE program, 20,000 participating optometrists volunteer their time to provide a FREE infant eye assessment for babies between the ages of 6 and 12 months old. There’s no catch here. The eye assessment is truly free, thanks to this non-profit program.
All you have to do is go to InfantSEE.org and enter your zipcode to find a participating provider in your area, and then call and tell them that you’d like to schedule an InfantSEE appointment for your baby.
- Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls Podcast
One of my favorite tools for bringing up real and important conversations with my kids is Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls. Each episode spotlights the life of a woman from history or current events who overcame incredible obstacles and trials in their life and defied gender discrimination within their field of study or their culture to pursue their dreams. You can find Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls wherever you listen to podcasts, and I know the episodes will give you plenty of opportunities to practice having discussions with your kids about the stuff that really matters in life!
