I am so thrilled to connect with you today and share an excerpt from a conversation I had several months ago with a dear friend of mine, Miranda Anderson.
Miranda is a blogger, an author, and a mom of three, and she has been on 3 in 30 twice before teaching us how to declutter our schedules and our lives. She has such a unique perspective on life, and I am so grateful that she is my friend and mentor, and that she is allowing me to air today’s episode, which is actually an excerpt from her podcast, Live Free Creative.
Back in November, she interviewed me for her show, and I loved the conversation so much, I wanted to bring it here.
In this discussion, we talk about three takeaways for finding delight in your motherhood, even in the hardest seasons. I hope you enjoy!

-3 Takeaways for Delighting in Motherhood-
1) Look for the Flecks of Gold.
Remember the parable of the miner and how he had to start looking for that particles of gold within the rocks…he had to crack them open and really search in order to find them. That is also true of many seasons of motherhood. The beautiful moments are there if we can train ourselves to see them and give them the weight they deserve in order to find more delight in our motherhood.
2) Declutter your Motherhood of Shoulds.
If you notice that you are feeling weighed down in your motherhood–maybe your life is feeling cluttered with commitments or you are constantly beating up on yourself for all the things you “should” be doing–I challenge you to think of your motherhood as a closet that needs a good declutter. What can you get rid of in order to find more delight in motherhood? Sit down and write out all of the “shoulds” that are weighing on you, and ask yourself, “Where did this come from, and does it really fit me and spark joy for me?” If it doesn’t, let it go.
3) Give yourself space to grow.
Think of Miranda’s cactus that stayed small until she put it in a bigger pot. Once it had room to spread its roots, it exploded with growth. How can you give yourself more space to grow within your motherhood and your life? I challenge you let this metaphor work in you, to talk it over with a friend or your partner, and make a plan for giving yourself a bit more growing room in your life.
