366: Tips for Work-at-Home Moms in the Summertime // Amy Whipple

Are you a mom working from home this summer like I am?

The juggle of work and motherhood can feel so intense. I often feel like I’m not doing any of it well, and this is especially true in the summer months when my kids are around 24/7!

Can you feel me?

As I was trying to prepare myself to manage this reality these next few months, I reached out to one of my Self-Assured Motherhood students who is an expert on this topic, and asked her to record her best three takeaways for us!

(Side note: This episode is a bit different because I don’t actually interview her. I just turned over the mic and asked her to create a quick mini-solo episode for us so we could all learn from her.)

Amy Whipple feels called to resource entrepreneurs, build communities, and encourage women to use their strengths. She has been a Start-Up and Process Consultant for 8 years with Lion Leadership, working with growing and scaling companies. She is also the founder of the Rise and Shine Mastermind, which exists to “challenge women to get up and get growing” on Wednesday mornings at 5:20 AM.

Amy is known for her energetic pep talks followed by a dose of ‘tough love.’ As the mom of two children, ages 9 and 11, she understands all too well the juggle of mom life and work life.

I hope you find her takeaways as helpful as I have!

Amy’s Tips for Moms Working From Home this Summer

1. Create a vision for the summer.

Be realistic about your expectations this summer. Create three categories: do, delegate, or delete, and put everything on your list in one of those categories. If you can delegate or delete something, do it! Amy reminds us that we have little “co-workers” running around during the summer, and that means we need to get really intentional about we can realistically keep on our plates during the summer months.

2. Do a time management audit.

The summertime is a vital time to audit where your time is going. When are you checking your emails? Create a block of time for this rather than being available all day long. Also, watch your social media use. Use apps like One Sec to help you stay focused. Set up specific work times so you’re not trying to juggle kids and work back-and-forth and feeling inefficient at both!

3. Be consistent with your scheduling.

Use a calendar and a planner to organize everything that comes your way. Create visual scheduling for your family so you can all be on the same page. Amy suggests having a whiteboard with daily expectations so your children know what they need to do each day.
