389: I’m a Seasoned Mom. Is SAM for me? // Wanda Opitz, SAM Alumni

Is the Self-Assured Motherhood Program a good fit for me?

I always get asked who my Self-Assured Motherhood program is designed for – young moms? moms with young kids? stay-at-home moms? My answer is always emphatically: it’s designed for all moms!

SAM is for all mothers – all ages, all stages, all walks of life. In fact, I often have the women in my program tell me it should be called Self-Assured Womanhood or Self-Assured Personhood because the principles apply so universally. (However, the acronym SAW and SAP don’t have quite the same ring as SAM. Don’t you agree? 😆)

If you’ve been asking yourself if SAM is a good fit for you, you will love my interview with SAM alumni Wanda Opitz.

Wanda is a mom of seven children ages 11-25. Although her children are no longer young, she still found herself feeling lost and discouraged in her motherhood. She joined SAM to help her find herself and her mothering.

I asked Wanda to come on 3 in 30 and share 3 takeaways she took from her participation in SAM. I hope you find them helpful!

3 Takeaways from the Self-Assured Motherhood Program

1. You really do need to put your own mask on first.

We all know this instruction given during the safety presentation on the airlines: put your own oxygen mask on before you help others. The same goes for moms! But Wanda wasn’t talking about self-care and bubble baths. She was talking about knowing yourself first and foremost. Then you can share that with your people as you love them, and your relationships will feel more rich and fulfilling for all of you.

2. Honoring who YOU are is just as important as honoring who your spouse and children are.

Your needs are not more important than everyone else’s in your family, but they are as important as everyone else’s in your family. Remember, it’s okay to make soup for yourself or insist on your favorite TV show or disappear into your room to rest every once in a while.

3. Knowing your own personal values helps make space to understand your emotions and responses as a mom.

When you have concretely articulated what you most care about, your big emotions will make more sense to you, so you can talk yourself down when you are feeling triggered OR when you are observing the big emotions of your children.

Don’t you love these takeaways from Wanda about the Self-Assured Motherhood Program? I love hearing about Wanda’s experience.

Wanda’s last takeaway is a perfect segue because I actually dive into understanding our emotions in much more detail in my free masterclass all about Mom Rage that is happening this week, so be sure to get signed up for that if you aren’t already. In this one-hour class, I will show you how three of the Self-Assured Motherhood Program principles can help you to reroute your anger so it actually leads to more connection with your kids. You’ll also have the opportunity to get a taste of my teaching style to see if SAM is a fit for you. Come join! You can view class times and reserve your seat by going to 3in30podcast.com/freeclass.

And if you’re all ready to sign up for SAM and need no more convincing, hooray! You won’t regret it! And you can sign up at 3in30podcast.com/sam. This is a program that I have seen change hundreds of women’s lives in the past three years, and I can’t wait to welcome you into our SAM Sisterhood.

My friends, remember that you matter, and your needs matter within your family! They are so lucky to have you. I’m rooting for you!
