Summer can be a doozy… here are some ideas for how to enjoy motherhood this summer!
Last week was our first full week of summer break, and…WOW. 😳
I don’t think I was prepared for the level of chaos, the already-bored kids, and the struggle of trying to work from home and be “Fun-Summer Mom.” It also did not help one bit that I was hormonal and therefore felt like I was failing at anything and everything. (Being a woman is lovely.)
We survived the week, but I definitely realized I needed to do some strategic thinking about how I wanted to reset some of our routines and expectations. Luckily, I’ve spent the last four years teaching women how to use the principles of Self-Assured Motherhood—so I decided it was time to take my own advice.
Last night, I sat out on our porch swing with my journal and wrote: What do I actually want this summer to feel like? Not what I want it to look like on Instagram, or what my friends are doing, or what I think I should be doing. What do I actually value, and what do I need as a person—not just as a mom?
That small moment helped me reframe my entire summer. I stopped chasing the version of motherhood I thought I should be living and started building one that actually worked for me.
If you’ve been feeling the same way—stretched thin by the long days, unsure how to balance your needs with your family’s, or just a little bit lost in the chaos—this episode is for you.
In this solo episode, I’m introducing a refreshed, simplified version of my Self-Assured Motherhood framework: the SAM Six. These six guiding principles will help you create a more grounded, intentional, and fulfilling summer—not by doing more, but by realigning with what matters most to you.
I’ll walk through how to apply each principle to your real-life summer season, with gentle questions and practical examples to help you reset and move forward with more clarity and peace.
✨ The SAM6 Principles (and how they can help you enjoy motherhood this summer):
1. Voice Your Values
Get clear on what matters most to you—not what the world says you should care about. When you know your values, you can shape your summer plans around what actually fills your cup, instead of chasing what looks fun on someone else’s calendar. This summer, let your values lead. Build rhythms and traditions around what truly matters to you and your family.
2. Celebrate Your Strengths
You don’t have to be good at everything. You just have to be you. When you recognize and lean into your natural strengths, you create a summer that feels joyful, not draining. Are you creative? Playful? Thoughtful? Use those strengths to guide your summer—not the pressure to be someone else’s version of a “fun mom.”
3. Balance Your Boundaries
Boundaries aren’t about being rigid or selfish—they’re about protecting your energy so you can show up with love and presence. This summer, check in with yourself. Do you need firmer limits to protect your peace? Or softer ones to allow more spontaneity? Finding the right balance is key.
4. Sanctify Your Soul-Care
Your needs matter, even in the busiest season. When you carve out small moments that nourish your body, mind, and spirit, you become steadier—and summer feels more sustainable. Even if routines are off, even if schedules are messy—what’s one small practice you can protect that helps you feel more like yourself?
5. Gather the Good
Even on the hard days, there are golden moments. When you train your brain to notice them, you shift your entire experience of motherhood. Summer offers tiny, magical flashes of connection. A warm evening. A shared laugh. A messy popsicle moment. Don’t miss them—gather them. 6. Support Their Struggles
You don’t have to fix everything for your kids, but you can create gentle scaffolding as they learn and grow. Summer is the perfect time to focus on one area where your child needs support—without rushing, without pressure. Just presence, love, and patience.
So tell me, what do you want this summer to feel like?
Take a moment to sit down with your journal—just like I did—and write it out. You don’t need a complete plan; you just need a starting point that honors your values, your energy, and the kind of mother you actually want to be.
You deserve a summer that works for you—and I’m here to help you create it.
