How to Be a Bold Decision Maker (Without Second-Guessing Yourself)
Recently, I found myself standing in the cereal aisle at the grocery store, completely stuck. It sounds silly, but I couldn’t decide—do I buy the “healthy” option I thought I should be buying for my kids, or the one I knew they’d actually eat without complaint?
Of course, it wasn’t really about the cereal. It was about how often I stop trusting my own instincts as a mom, wondering if what I want or what I believe is best might somehow be wrong. Can you relate?
That’s why I loved my conversation with Jessica Frew, a decision coach and author who helps women rebuild trust with themselves. Jessica has lived through incredibly complex circumstances—her first husband came out as gay, they remained married for years, and later divorced—and through it all, she learned how to stay aligned with who she really is. Out of her experiences, she created a simple but powerful framework, called the Be.Be.Be. Decision-Making Formula, which teaches us how to be bold decision makers in everyday life.
Jessica Frew’s Be. Be. Be. Decision-Making Formula:
1. Be Gentle.
The first step is to notice and release the judgment you carry. So many of us live under a constant cloud of “shoulds”: I should parent this way. I should look like that. I should want this. Jessica encourages us to practice swapping “should” for “could,” which turns guilt into possibility. This gentleness with yourself lays the foundation for making decisions you can trust.
2. Be Humble.
Next, set aside ego and get clear on your values. Being humble isn’t about being passive—it’s about being honest with yourself. Instead of proving your worth by meeting everyone else’s expectations, pause to ask: What do I really value? What actually matters most to me in this season? That clarity helps you choose in alignment with who you are, not who others expect you to be.
3. Be Bold.
Finally, take action. Jessica reminded us that boldness isn’t about big, dramatic moves—it’s about consistent, small steps. Each time you act on your values, whether it’s saying no to something that drains you or yes to something that lights you up, you rebuild confidence in yourself. Those small actions are what ultimately create peace, clarity, and strength in your decision-making.
