095: 3 Simple Rituals of Connection for your Marriage // Nate Bagley

3 Simple Rituals of Connection for your Marriage with Nate Bagley by popular podcast 3 in 30: image of Nate Bagley and his wife sitting next to each other outside.

I’m so excited to have Nate Bagley on today’s podcast. But before we dive right in, did you know that Drs. John and Julie Gottman are going to be in Utah in September to speak about “essential conversations for a lifetime of love?”

This. Is. Huge.

Whether you’re able to come to the event or not, I have Nate Bagley, founder of Utah Date Night and the Loveumentary podcast, here to talk about strengthening our marriages. We could talk about kids and parenting all day long, but we’ve all been told how vital it is to keep our marriage at the forefront of our priorities. I don’t know about you, but mine gets neglected all too often in the midst of the busyness of raising children.

Nate Bagley teaches us about 3 simple “Rituals of Connection” for our marriages:

  1. The 6-second passionate kiss
  2. The weekly “State of Affairs” or “Marriage Meeting”
  3. Connecting questions or power questions you can ask your partner every day that will make them feel loved and appreciated

And don’t forget to go to 3in30podcast.com/utahdatenight to get a ticket to see Drs. John and Julie Gottman speak AND meet me! I can’t wait to give you a hug!

Thanks. I really love this episode. All three rituals are so good. I’m going to implement the marriage meeting and the 6 sec 😘. It’ll be a really awkward since we don’t show affection lot, Asian married couples don’t show affection. But I would love to have that habit to show my kids that we both love each other and it’s okay show affection.

    Thanks again!

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! That is awesome that you want to start showing more affection! Isn’t it so interesting how different cultures show affection so differently?? Let me know how it goes!

I stopped listening during the 6 second kiss because that was so off base to me. (The other two takeaways that i read sound more legit for my relationship.) It sounded like his wife’s love language is physical affection, which is why that filled her up. But I am not affectionate at all and would feel like I was being assaulted if my husband tried that on me. My love language is gifts, followed closely by service, so I would have said at the end of the experiment week that the daily doing of dishes or bringing me flowers was noticeable. I would have put the kibosh on any kissing the moment my husband tried. (That is for bedroom ONLY.) I share this to say that the first takeaway is not a good takeaway for everybody, and I wish there had been a more universal takeaway in the number one spot.
