Years ago I desperately needed to change my perspe Years ago I desperately needed to change my perspective in motherhood. I needed to cultivate gratitude and appreciate my blessings. But how?

I started writing down one fleck of gold, or tiny beautiful moment, from my day. This turned into a practice that I did every day.

Over time my flecks accumulated and became a rich and steadying anchor to me during the ups and downs of motherhood.

This practice has changed my life and my motherhood, and I want it to change yours too.

I created the Flecks of Gold Journal so that YOU can start gathering your own golem moments with your family.

Best of all, right now the journals are on sale and are automatically discounted $5!

Just like the miner learned in this story, sometim Just like the miner learned in this story, sometimes in motherhood, you have to look for “flecks of gold”—those tiny, beautiful moments that get you through all of the hard stuff.

When I was in an extremely difficult season of motherhood, I decided to start giving more weight to the beautiful moments in my days by writing them down. Each night, I journaled about one “fleck of gold” that I had noticed that day–a funny comment from my daughter, a perfect sunset on a family walk, or an unexpectedly meaningful conversation with my son at bedtime.

During even the hardest days, if I could find one fleck of gold, it felt like enough. And over time, my flecks accumulated and became a rich and steadying anchor to me during the ups and downs of motherhood.

This practice has changed my life and my motherhood, and I want it to change yours as well. I created the Flecks of Gold journal so that YOU can start gathering your own flecks of gold with your children.

Love this metaphor of “landing” gratitude, whi Love this metaphor of “landing” gratitude, which I originally heard in an article, written by Tiffany Erickson for @powerofmoms almost ten years ago! (Excerpt of that article quoted here!)

You can listen to the full podcast episode on 3 in 30 Takeaways for Moms to hear details of my three ideas for teaching gratitude to kids, but here’s a quick recap:

1️⃣ Start a daily gratitude practice with them.

This could be writing in the Flecks of Gold Journal for Kids or simply sharing “highs and lows” over family dinner. The more regular you can make your family’s gratitude practice, the more second-nature it will become to your child.

2️⃣ Play the Good News/Bad News game.

When something negative happens to your children, acknowledge what is difficult or sad with the “Bad News.” Then, try to find a bright spot in the situation with the “Good News.” (More on this game in the episode!)

3️⃣ Help your children write thank-you notes or make thank-you phone calls.

It is important that kids understand that when someone gives them something, whether that is a material object or just their time and energy, it deserves to be acknowledged. If your child struggles with writing 🙋🏼‍♀️, phone calls or personalized videos work too.

What do YOU do to help your children “land” gratitude? I would love to hear all of your ideas in the comments! 👇🏼
